ImageMacquarie Philharmonia was formed in 2004, as a result of the creative vision of Ron and Stephanie Camplin. The Macquarie Philharmonia annually brings together talented professional musicians living in western areas of NSW, from the Blue Mountains to Dubbo and from Mudgee to Cowra. The Macquarie Philharmonia also invites the best music students from the region's Conservatoriums to perform alongside professionals.

The Macquarie Philharmonia is a ProAm (professional and amateur) orchestra, which annually performs exciting and varied programs throughout Central Western NSW.

Each year, the Macquarie Philharmonia hosts a concert series in different areas. This ensures that high quality classical music is available to audiences who perhaps would not have the opportunity to experience full ochestral productions.

The 2008 Season was the largest orchestral performance that the Macquarie Philharmonia has undertaken to date. Over 65 musicians from the Blue Mountains, Dubbo, Mudgee, Bathurst, Lithgow, Orange, Forbes and other Central Western areas performed an ambitious and highly successful selection of works. These works included the First Movement of the Rachmaninov 2nd Piano Concerto with soloist Elena Day-Hakker, Bizet's Carmen Suite No 1, and four Songs of the Auvergne by Canteloube with soprano Helen Barnett. The 2008 Season was also the final season to be conducted by Maestro Leonard Camplin CD, from Canada.

The 2007 Concert Series featured an outdoor performance of Saint Saen's Carnival of the Animals, Australian composer Peter Winkler's The Kookaburra who stole the Moon and excerpts from Tim Rice's The Lion King, in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo NSW. The 2007 Concert Series performances took place in Dubbo, Cowra and Bathurst. Please see 'Concerts and Events' for more information about individual season performances.

Macquarie Philharmonia is generously supported by many local councils and businesses throughout the Central West. Please see 'Support' for a full list of Macquarie Philharmonia donors.
