Australia’s acclaimed Inland Orchestra, the 70 piece Macquarie Philharmonia, will entertain this season with ‘An American Dream." This enthralling concert features famous composers who have lived in or been influenced by America and its range of lifestyles and cultures.

The variety of music reflects the wide open prairie and mystical spirits of Native Americans that inspired Dvorak, through to the influences of African American blues of Gershwin to the fiercely independent and democratic spirit of modern America so movingly represented by Copeland’s Fanfare.

The show opens with the dramatic ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’ – most recognised as the ABC Radio’s World of Sport theme tune for so many years.
A second highlight will be George Gershwin’s, The Rhapsody in Blue.’ This is one of the most popular Concertos in the piano repertoire today with its unmistakable opening of the clarinet sliding into the opening theme.

As a lighter and delightful change of pace, well known soprano Helen Barnett will showcase some of the hit songs like Gershwin’s Summertime & The Man I love and Cole Porter’s I’ve got you under my skin and Night and Day. After interval, the sublime and sensational Dvorak’s ‘New World Symphony’ -rated as the clear winner of ABC Radios’ Top One Hundred symphonies - will transport audiences from the breathtaking Rocky Mountains and the Grand Canyon to the bustling port of Boston and finally leave you inspired by the Negro Spirituals, the early jazz of New Orleans and the nature spirits of the first Americans.
